Van Gaal the main problem stopping De Gea transfer

Spanish newspaper Sport on Monday say that Louis van Gaal is 'the main problem' stopping Real Madrid from signing David de Gea as quickly and easily as they'd have wanted to.
It's him insisting on a huge fee and that the club won't sell unless they get it, and Sport say he's also insisting on getting a replacement before sanctioning any deal. Van Gaal is said to have asked how Madrid can justify requesting €75m for Angel Di Maria and €90 for Sergio Ramos and then not be prepared to part with €40m for De Gea.

Manchester United supporters would ask nothing less of their manager and will be taking a certain pride in Van Gaal sticking two fingers up to Real Madrid. Whilst Manchester United may have to eventually sell De Gea to Madrid, if it proves in their best interest given his outlook, there's no harm in being as awkward as possible and getting every bit of leverage out of the situation as possible. Van Gaal and Manchester United are apparently also keen to get some kind of revenge for the way Real Madrid dealt with the transfer of Angel Di Maria last summer, dragging it out more than needed and being unnecessarily tough.

Van Gaal was of course once manager of Barcelona and that means there's likely to be ill feeling from that period too. He'll have seen the Spanish sport media in action first hand and therefore will have been able to assist Edward Woodward with causing mayhem at Madrid, if that was the plan.
