Following quotes from Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin on Wednesday, it now seems inevitable that the French midfielder will leave St Mary’s in the coming days.
It is widely believed that Schneiderlin is being chased by three clubs: Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham.
On Wednesday, Schneiderlin said: “The negotiations are ongoing and should be completed in the coming days, hopefully before the resumption of [Southampton’s pre-season] training next week.”
The bookies immediately slashed odds on Schneiderlin joining Arsenal, who are considered the favourites by many pundits.
Whilst we can probably discount Spurs, due to their lack of Champions League football, there seem to be a few signs suggesting that Manchester United are in fact in pole position.
The Secret Footballer on Twitter announced last night that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had in fact “gradually convinced himself to not do a deal”.
The Secret Footballer, believed to be Dave Kitson, formerly of Stoke and Portsmouth, often produces transfer gossip on Twitter.
Meanwhile, in The Times today, one of the best and most reliable sources for transfer gossip, Matt Hughes writes that Manchester United are favourites to sign Morgan Schneiderlin.
