Summary of how Manchester United Debutants fared in their firstcompetitive game


Sergio Romero

The new goal keeper was good in his debut game, pulling an excellent block from Kyle Walker just few minutes before he found the back of his own net
. The Argentine shot-stopper was confidence in goal post, stopping Alderweireld's effort and Ben Davies too. He also denied Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane's header that came off Smallings late on. The 28-year-old took the necessary actions when called upon and looked like a good replacement should De Gea eventually leave for Madrid.


Matteo Darmian

Also a Premier League debutant, the 25-year old made 85% accurate passes and 5 clearances that won him Manchester United Man of the match, he tracked down Nacer Chadli's running with important defensive clearance and supported attack down the right flank, delivering good crosses before being subbed off for Antonio Valencia. United former Manager  Ron Atkinson described him as a “proper defender” with “great positional awareness”. 




Memphis Depay

 The new no 7 shirt was pivotal to the only goal scored in the match as he played in Ashley young to cross for Rooney before Walker slotted it in his own net. Van Gaal took him out in the middle of the second half and replaced him with Herrera wtih the suggestion that he felt he was too eager to impress.



Morgan Schneiderlin

Schneiderlin was good in the midfield, retaining possessions for United and making the play look so simple with the help of his well experienced team mate Michael Carrick. The Frenchman was hard working and made efforts to spread the play and made so many interception without going too far.



Bastian Schweinsteiger

Being the club's first German player to play at Old Trafford, he came on to replace Michael Carrick at the 60th minute, he drew attention to his self with some nice long range passes unlocking Tottenham defence and made some good interceptions, helping the Reds retain the lead. Thou he picked up a yellow card.
