Chelsea might break bank to sign Everton defender John Stones [Guardian]

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is anxious to bring Everton defender John Stones to Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho sees the defender is as a long-term successor for Blues skipper John Terry and he’s willing to break bank to make it happen.

Roberto Martinez is not ready to sell his prized assets for anything less than a weird amount.

Rio Ferdinand’s transfer record has been standing as the most expensive english defender since he moved from Leeds United to Manchester United in 2002 for a record £30million.

Chelsea have already seen their £20 million bid rejected by Everton and are preparing an improved bid of £26million for the defender.

Martinez has accused Mourinho of purposely unsettling the defender by making the bid publicly known.
