Cavani visits father in prison; incarcerated for DUI

It’s been a tough week for Edinson Cavani.

Compounding the disappointment of Uruguay’s Copa America exit at the hands of hosts Chile is the trauma he must deal with following his father’s DUI incident.

The father of the PSG striker was arrested on Wednesday evening for crashing into a motorcyclist while driving under the influence of alcohol.

Coming so soon after Arturo Vidal’s DUI incident, it’s another high profile incident which sheds a poor light on a prevalent drink driving culture in South America.

The victim died hours later, meaning Cavani Snr now faces manslaughter charges on top o his DUI charge, and is currently being incarcerated in a prison in the city of Cañitas.

Cavani went to visit his father Luis yesterday, and told Uruguay’s El Pais that he was relieved to see the quality of the prison’s conditions.

  1. According to El Pais, Cavani is considering buying a house close to the prison in order to be able to visit his father bi-weekly.
