Manchester United make €82million bid for Bayern forward Muller

With Radamel Falcao departing for Chelsea via parent club Monaco and Robin van Persie tipped to leave Old Trafford this summer, there seems little doubt that Manchester United need strengthening up front.

As it stands, Louis van Gaal is likely to have Wayne Rooney and James Wilson as his starting strikers and with plenty of cash to spend it would be a surprise if United did not bring in an attacker to supplement Memphis Depay.

German television station Sport 1 have reported on their website on Tuesday that United are getting rather serious about Thomas Muller.

Whilst some may wonder if Sport 1 have also been duped today, like the BBC Gossip column, they are a very good source for transfers.

For example Sport 1 reported Brazilian Douglas Costa would sign for Bayern Munich before any other German source – this move was completed last week.

Thomas Muller and Pep Guardiola were involved in a training ground bust-up on Monday and there are question marks over whether the pair get on.

Louis van Gaal is a big admirer of Muller from the Dutch coach’s time at Bayern. Sport 1 suggest that United are willing to pay 82 million euros for the German international.

What sets this Sport 1 story apart from many others is that they claim talks have already begun over the sale of Muller between Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Ed Woodward over the last few days.

Sport 1 end their report questioning whether Bayern will sell to a direct rival in the Champions League and confirming that Muller is contracted to the German champions until 2019.

It looks like a big ask to bring in Thomas Muller but he would undoubtedly improve Manchester United and would likely be a big star in the Premier League.
