Valdes snubs Valencia to stay at Old trafford

Manchester United goalie Victor Valdes has rejected the opportunity to return to Spain to join Valencia.

Valencia finished last season in fourth place in La Liga, qualifying them a place in the Champions League qualifiers.

The Valdes story shows the 33-year-old’s commitment to fighting to become the number one at Manchester United in the 2015-16 season. Valdes has yet to make one Premier League start for the Red Devils (he came on as a sub in United’s final home game of the season), but if David De Gea leaves this summer, that situation could quickly change.

There are, however, reasons to question the reliability of piece in AS.

AS fail to cite anything close to a source, nor any substantial details of the offer, in their Valdes-Valencia piece, while the rumour, which has also been reported by the Express (second red flag), appears to have originated a month ago from the almost consistently unreliable Metro.

Saying that, Los Che are in need of a new goalie, after their vice captain Diego Alves suffered a recent knee injury that will keep him out the game for seven to eight months.

Presupposed back-up, 26-year-old Yoel, who has made only two appearances for Valencia since joining from Celta Vigo, is currently the number one keeper on Valencia’s books.

In that regard, it’s understandable why Valencia would be looking to Valdes.
