Manchester City's Edin Dzeko strongly linked with As Roma

Italian side AS Roma planning on rescuing Edin Dzeko from an unfavoured spell at Manchester City, according to a Guardian report.

The two teams held talks about a transfer worth £14.1 million (€20m), with Edin Dzeko being offered a five-year contract worth £60,000-a-week.

Roma are trying to reinvigorate their forward line ahead of the new season and eye the Bosnian as a 20-goal-a-season striker. He was certainly that before moving to City.

His succesful spell at Wolfsburg in Germany saw him score 85 goals in 142 appearances, helping the club win its first Bundesliga title in the process.

His amazing form persuaded City to spend £27m on him.

But, despite two Premier League titles and one FA Cup, his time at the Etihad has been typified by his struggle for a first team spot.

Perhaps thinking that he might be given more opportunities after helping the club to the 2013-14 title, Dzeko signed a new City contract last summer.

But the likes of Sergio Aguero remain ahead of him in the pecking order and he could only score four goals from his last 22 starts.
