Louis Van Gaal gives surprise reason for playing Depay in central role instead of his natural Left wing

United fans has dreamt of seeing Memphis Depay play from Left wing as he did for PSV at Eredivise last season and finished top scorer.

He also plays in that position for Dutch national team, giving superb crosses and picking up assists.

So seeing him play in number 10 position on Saturday was a thing of surprise.

The new number 7 at Old Trafford was clearly out of position during his premier League debut, thou he wasn't rated bad, but he wasnt playing like a natural Central playmaker.

The United Boss Louis Van Gaal has revealed the sole reason for trying Depay in the Central role, a very strange reason; because of Ashley Young.

Young was one of United's best player last season, but a player at 30 years of age is not part of Manchester United future, so its hard to Understand why Van Gaal would play Depay out of position for young.

As for Van Gaal Depay played ok in his first competitive game as number 10, has also said he was too eager to impress.

“It is a new position for him and he has to adapt to the new position because he is a goal-scoring type."

“We have to wait and see if he can fulfil the demands of this position but that’s also because Ashley Young is playing very good on the left side. That is the circumstances now but it can change during the season. He can play in this position.”

“Yeah, but he is too eager, I think."

“I have said that in advance. New players, especially young players, want to show their qualities. The next match, because of that, will be better for him.”
