David De Gea not selected in the 1st team squad to play against Tottenham today

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has decided to not to play De Gea in their Premier League opener against Tottenham on Saturday.

David De Gea has been linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid throughout the summer.

The 24-year old shot stopper played the last two games of the USA tour for United, but Van Gaal has insisted he won't be picked for the game against Tottenham.

"He shall not play," the Manager said.

"I think a human being is more than only a player, and he [De Gea] cannot manage that."

Iker Casillas left Real Madrid this summer for Fc Porto, and De Gea has been seen as his long term replacement.

United have stood their ground on the transfer terms, insisting that they would only allow De Gea go the other way if Sergio Ramos is coming to Old Trafford, but Real Madrid also insists their new Captain is going nowhere.

"We have problems of course with De Gea," Van Gaal answered, when asked about his thought on the outcome of the saga. "I don't know. That's in process."

"I cannot lead this process - I can only watch and observe and that's what I'm doing, but I'm not participating in it."

Sergio Romero is the most likely to be in goal for Manchester United in their first game of the season, given that Victor Valdez has no Squad number, but Van gaal has made comments which suggests United Academy goal keeper Sam JohnStone will be in the post today.
