Toby Alderweireld arrives London to complete Tottenham move; despiteSouthampton's legal threat

despite legal threats from Southampton to scupper  the deal between AtleticoMadrid and Tottenham for Toby Alderweireld
The defender Toby Has arrived in London today to complete his move to Tottenham Hotspur

The Evening Standard reports that Spurs have agreed to pay the Spanish side an initial fee of £10million for the 26-year-old, with another £1.5million in various add-ons to follow.

The Belgium international is set to sign a deal that will keep him at white hart lane for five years worth in excess of the £50,000-a-week he was earning in Madrid.

The switch appeared to be in doubt last night with Southampton threatening to take legal action against Atletico if the defender joined any other club.

The Saints had an option to buy Toby Alderweireld outright for £6.8million included in their loan agreement with Atletico last year. The Spanish side also inserted a clause which would allow them to sell the defender elsewhere if they paid Southampton £1.5million to cancel the loan agreement.

There is an element of confusion though because while the La Liga side have agreed to pay the £1.5million fee Southampton claim it has come too late and insist Toby Alderweireld can’t join another club now.

It is believed though that the nature of the dispute won’t affect the transfer as far as the player concerned, has a preference to move to White Hart Lane rather than stay at St Mary’s.
