If Germany daily Bild is accurate, any moment now confirmation will be made that Lukas Podolski has agreed to leave Arsenal to join Galatasaray in a €4m move.
The news will come as a surprise to few Gooners fans.
Podolski, 30, has long been viewed as surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium: a point most potently made as the German World Cup winner was farmed out to Inter Milan for a largely underwhelming loan spell at the San Siro last season.
After months of transfer speculation, the latest update from Bild on Friday is that Podolski has agreed to move to Galatasaray until 2018. Galatasaray won the double in Turkey last season.
Indeed, Nassim Touihri, Podolski’s agent, has told Bild why the player has decided to join the Turkish powerhouse:
We had very good talks with Wenger. He wanted to keep Lukas, but couldn’t give him a guarantee that he will be starter. That’s why we agreed on a transfer.
Podolski has made 82 appearances for Arsenal since joining the club from FC Koln, scoring 31 goals.
