Manchester United closing in on £7.5million deal for BastianSchweinsteiger

The Sunday People have a major claim surrounding Manchester United signing Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

At 31-years-old there would undoubtedly be question marks raised about Schweinsteiger were he to move to Old Trafford but no player has won more Bundesliga titles and around a year ago the German midfielder was winning the World Cup.

According to Steve Bates of The Sunday People, Manchester United are “confident” and “nearing” a 7.5 million pound deal for Schweinsteiger.

In United’s favour is that Louis van Gaal worked with Schweinsteiger when he was coach of Bayern Munich.

And, the veteran midfielder has just one year left on his current Bayern Munich deal.

United fans will no doubt be well aware now that Schweinsteiger may simply be using United’s interest to get himself a better deal at the Allianz Arena.

Bates adds that Schweinsteiger “is tempted to link-up with van Gaal” and United could certainly do with extra bodies in midfield.

Whether United should be targeting ageing midfielders when the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin are available is another question…
