The pair were not contacted separately to be informed of the club's decision to allow them to leave, though they do not blame manager John Carver for the situation
Ryan Taylor has that he was told he would be released from Newcastle United over the phone, and then told to pass it to Jonas Gutierrez to be given the news that his contract would not be renewed either.
Gutierrez recently recovered from testicular cancer before scoring the second goal in the Magpies' final-day victory over West Ham that secured their survival in the Premier League.
Despite that, the winger was not offered a new deal by Newcastle and he and Taylor are free to find new clubs.
But Taylor criticised the manner in which the news was relayed to Gutierrez, with the 30-year-old having to pass his own phone to the Argentine, rather than receive separate calls.
"John Carver rang me and told me the club weren’t going to offer me a new deal,” he told Sky Sports.
"I then had a chat with him, he’s a good friend of mine. I’ve spent a lot of time with John in and out of the club.
"So I had a chat with him and then he asked me to pass the phone to Jonas, which was unbelievable.
"I can’t really blame John because he’s under instructions on what to do.
“I didn’t expect to get offered a new contract but it’s not about that, you have to move on,” he added.
"The more important thing is that they can pick up a phone and call me or call my agent and say, ‘Listen, thank you for everything, we are going to release you’. That is more the way to do it."
