Transfer rumours: Gareth Bale to United on a record fee

Man United to break the bank for Bale

Every year there's that saga that runs and runs and runs. Given that this summer's transfer window is not yet open and we've already heard repeatedly that Manchester United want Gareth Bale, it's a pretty safe bet that this will not be the last update on this topic that Transfer Talk brings you.

The latest rumour comes from The Telegraph, who report that United's impending return to the Champions League, as well as the new kit deal, means that £100 million will be available should the Welshman signal his intention to leave Real Madrid.
Bale, who has just returned to training following injury, has endured mixed fortunes in his second season in Madrid, scoring 19 goals in all competitions but also being booed by sections of the Bernabeu support.
Meanwhile, United also continue to be linked to Southampton's Nathaniel Clyne while another rumoured target, Ilkay Gundogan, has reportedly told Borussia Dortmund he will not sign a new contract.
