Adam Johnson charged with three sexual offenses with a minor

Sunderland’s Adam Johnson has been formally charged with three offences of sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16.

Johnson was first taken in for questioning over the alleged sexual relation with a minor on 2 March, after which he was temporarily suspended by his club Sunderland.
But Johnson was surprisingly given the ‘innocent until proven guilty’ proviso by the club, and was allowed back to participate fully with the team, despite being on police bail.
He even played in the Tyne-Wear derby three weeks ago, coming on as a second half substitute in Sunderland’s 1-0 win over Newcastle.
But now that the charge had been made by the Duram Police, Johnson’s season is now surely over, as he and his solicitor attend the local police station this evening to answer bail, and arrange the date for his court hearing.
As well as the three charges of sexual offences, Johnson has been charged with grooming, which involves establishing an emotional connection with a person under the age of consent.
