Sterling tells Liverpool he wants to leave

Liverpool want away star Raheem Sterling has told manager Brendan Rodgers of his desire to be left out of the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia.

The Mirror reports that the England international has held talks with the Anfield Authorities this week after returning to training.

The player  has bared his mind to them, telling them he wants to leave Merseyside this summer and also asked to be omitted from the two-week trip to Thailand, Australia and Malaysia.

It has been widely reported that Manchester City are extremely keen on taking the 20 year to the Etihad next season.

Liverpool have not had contact with City since their last bid of £35million plus £5million in performance related bonuses was rejected last month, although a fresh approach is expected soon.

However, The Anfield club insists that Sterling travels with the squad and even play if selected for their first friendly, in Bangkok on Tuesday.

Despite their current stance, Liverpool are considering alternatives should the England forward eventually complete a move to the blue half of Manchester.

Rumours have linked them with Barcelona winger Pedro and Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke who is reported to be extremely keen on a move to Anfield.
