Breaking: Abou Diaby leaves Arsenal after contract expires

The 29-year-old midfielder featured just twice for the Gunners in the last two years after struggling with injuries and is now a free agent after being released

Arsenal have confirmed that Abou Diaby has left the club as a free agent.

The 29-year-old played only two first-team games in the last two years and has left the club after his contract expired on June 30.

A statement from Arsenal read: "A hugely talented midfielder, unfortunately his time at the club was interrupted by a number of serious injuries."

Diaby joined Arsenal from Auxerre in January 2006 and made 180 first-team appearances in all competitions.

Ryo Miyaichi was also released earlier this summer but has since joined St Pauli in Germany's second division.
