Manchester United target £10million Monaco defender Fabinho

Wednesday's edition of French newspaper L'Equipe has an interesting claim for Manchester United supporters. There appears to be a new target in town and in a transfer rumour period which has already become a little stale, that's refreshing. L'Equipe reckon that Manchester United have turned their attention to Fabinho for their right back position
. There's a shortage of truly top right backs in world football at the moment and whilst Fabinho may not be in that category just yet he's shown enough for AS Monaco to suggest that he can get there.

L'Equipe say they've heard from an English source that Manchester United have decided on an offer of €14m and could present that quickly, that converts to £10m and doesn't sound a great deal of money in today's market. The French newspaper would normally differentiate if they meant they'd got it from the English media rather than an actual source, and we can't find any recent strong claims of such a bid anyway.

Perhaps more telling than the idea of a bid is the mention of Jorge Mendes, who L'Equipe say is Fabinho's agent. Whilst it isn't Mendes listed as Fabinho's agent on Transfermakrt, we have little reason to doubt L'Equipe given that Mendes hoovers clients up by the month. Even if Mendes weren't Fabinho's agent it would be no surprise to have him involved in a deal. The French newspaper seem to think given that Mendes helped bring Radamel Falcao from Monaco to Manchester that he can do similar with Fabinho.

Fabinho is currently with the Brazil squad for the Copa America which would make a quick completion of the deal tricky, even if all parties agreed to the transfer.
